Being such a difficult book to write, I sometimes felt conflicted about having two people fall passionately into each other’s arms within such a horror-filled backdrop, and there were many days when just couldn’t bear to write another scene. A huge part of me felt that romanticizing this seedy underworld was wrong, which conflicted quite a lot with Gray and Thane’s growing relationship.
